Make & Take October 26, 7pm

Our next meeting is coming up, with an exciting program.

Make&Take Gift,
with Darlene Miller and Lois Ullman

Please remember to bring your scrap fabric to use. Woven, 6" or 8" squares. If you have any questions, call Darlene or Lois. This should be fun, and it will give us a chance to learn a quick method to make some nice gifts for the upcoming holidays.

As always, we're meeting at Sew Creative at Sutter Place Mall, 48th & Hwy 2. 7pm until about 9. Sign in at the front desk, please, then come on back to the classroom.

Nearby Sewing Events

I've just been notified by the Omaha Sewing Guild (see their link in our sidebar) that they will be hosting Linda MacPhee on September 19 & 20, for both a Hands-On Workshop and a Trunk Show. It sounds like great fun, and Linda has lots to show and teach. Some of her specialties are Slinky fabric sewing and patterns, and Coat sewing and patterns. Lots more details at the link above.

They have their programs, etc. listed on their site, as we do, so take a look and see if there's something interesting you'd like to attend. I'm sure we're welcome to visit, as they are to visit us. With sewing events few and far between, we need to take advantage of what's available near us.

They also do Charity Sewing, as do we, and we are invited to join them at their next charity sewing event. Here's the message from Beverly, President of the Omaha ASG Chapter:

Glad to see your group does charity sewing, too! The Omaha Sewing Guild has a special day in January for a whole group meeting. Join us January 23rd, 2010.

Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

Summer Charity Sewing

Charity Sewing
at
Sew Creative
Monday, July 23rd
6:30-9pm

We will be gathering at Sew Creative on July 23rd to do charity sewing. We have met previously at Elizabeth's home for this, but Paul Sorenson has graciously offered us the use of a classroom and machines. All we have to do is let him know how many are coming, and then show up and help sew. This is always a fun activity, and it will be nice to catch up with everyone's summer activities so far.

Elizabeth is in charge of this, so please Call Her to let her know you are planning to come. We will begin about 6:30 or 7pm, and finish by 9pm.

You may also leave a comment here to let us know you're planning to attend.

News Of A Member

I didn't know if I should post this, but since I'd do it if it were another of our members, I'm tooting my own horn a little (a lot!) to say that I have an article in the latest issue of Threads Magazine (September 2009.)

My article is called Custom Covered Shoes, and it's about covering shoes to match your clothing, or whatever you want to match.

The very end of the article shows my favorite shoe of all. It's a silk matka with fiber embellishments that were great fun to do, and I have a Marfy jacket that you've all seen during Show&Tell at a meeting, that matches it.

Jeanette's Bears

Our last meeting of the year is Monday, May 18th. This is a week earlier than usual, as always in May, so we don't hit on Memorial Day.

Our program will be given by Jeanette Summers, one of our talented members, and is called Bear With Me. She will tell us some of her teddy-bear making secrets, and show us her work. This highly anticipated program should be a wonderful finish to another good year with the Lincoln Sewing Guild.

There will be updates here throughout the summer, so check in once in a while to see what's happening.

News from the Olympics of Wearable Art

Yes, our next meeting should prove to be both interesting and exciting, as Diane Gloystein, Founding Member of our Guild and Sulky Educator, returns to show us how she created Caribbean Sunset, her ensemble now touring with the 2008 Bernina Fashion Show, often called The Olympics of Wearable Art. She was among those receiving a coveted invitation to contribute an entry to the juried competition and showcase. Those of us who know her and her work are hardly surprised.

She will show us the portfolio she created while designing her entry, and discuss the techniques used, as well as noting the challenges along the way. All in all, it should be a great evening. We'll see you there, Monday, April 27, 7pm at Sew Creative's new classroom.

Rescheduled Program for March 23

Meeting Rescheduled to Next Monday, March 30.
Same time, same place.
See you then, and stay dry tonight.

Tonight's meeting will feature Paul Sorenson, owner of Sew Creative, who will give us all the latest on what's new in sewing equipment, software, notions and techniques for this year. Should be very interesting.

The weather's looking unstable, and there are Tornado Watches and High Wind Warnings for tonight, so watch this spot for announcements if necessary. Otherwise, we'll see everyone at Sew Creative's classroom at 7pm tonight. Don't forget to sign in at the front desk please.
